Dante, the miracle baby whose dad gave birth to him

Dante, the miracle baby whose dad gave birth to him

Wed, 21 Jul 2010 7:30p.m.

How to describe this very unorthodox family? Well, first there's Cai - he was born a girl. Then there's Emily - she was born a boy. These two young people grew up in a state of utter confusion, feeling so alone and different.

Yet Cai and Emily met, fell in love and were married. Now that may seem strange in itself, but that's just the beginning.

Enter little Dante, the baby who was supposed to be a medical impossibility, impossible because Emily can't have children. You're about to find out just what happens when it's dad who has the baby.

Watch the video.

I am angry at this story, I should not have to explain to my six year old that men do not have baby's. (Booo 60mins. This story is misleading to start with and inapropriate to advertise at an hour when young children can be watching tv.) As far as the truth goes the people with the wombs are the women. In my opinion changing gender is a very deep issue with self-identity. Choosing to change gender and still keeping the blessings and the abilities of the original gender says enough in itself. It's realy not that confusing, you take a look at the package you were born with, deal with it and go from there.

Some of these comments are moronic. Most (certainly not all) GLBT people prefer not to subscribe to doctrine that paints them as 'unnatural' or 'abnormal'; therefore it follows that whoever quotes scripture at us is barking up the wrong tree. You can point to the Bible all you like as some kind of 'evidence' for Right and Wrong, if it makes you feel holy, but you cannot alter human nature in this way. Your God created gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer people - think he made a mistake? Take it up with Him, not the good people who make up a diverse society, pay taxes, raise children, and contribute in all the ways you do. There is no defense for stupidity. God loves - why don't you?

Sorry 60 Minutes a woman had the baby and she is the biological mother. Just because she role-plays being a man and a father does not make her so. Little Dante, a medical impossibility? I'm afraid not.

That interviewer is such a goddamn idiot. The most pathetic questions.... "Does she pull it off?" Come on. That's insulting. It's great that this couple can be free to do exactly what everyone else is free to do. Power to them.

when is the time to start separating between what is ABNORMAL and in need of physical/psychlogical and counceling treatment which is the case for the rather poor parents and between what's right " not just acceptable" in accordance to our christian values on which the western and modern society is based on? it's only when you take the authority of God intention for his own creatures and replace it with secular modern philosophies then you start to be your OWN authority and everything else will be just another form of "my way of doing it or living it" , this is what we call confusely " freedom".. i feel sorry for the poor child, if you can't be responsible for your own bahaviour and thinking then don't put others in misery, it's enough that 2 parents had to suffer through this why then a child " unplanned " as the two parents said??

The story was interesting wrong title though. Technically the person was still a woman. Story quoted "you don't need a penis to be a man... what if there was an accident and your penis was cut off... will that discontinue your manhood" or something Answer is simple. "No it won't because he HAD proof he was a man"

Cai and Emily - you rock! The grandmum on the show, she is my hero! It is so encouraging to see how understanding and accepting a family can be. You are so brave to be on 60 minutes. Good on you. xx
