His Holiness The Dalai Lama has arrived in Christchurch today to see the destruction caused by the February earthquake, and offer prayers for the people of Christchurch.
A crowd of about 50 people met the spiritual leader offering him Khatas, a traditional Tibetan flag.
Speaking to the crowd the Dalai Lama said Christchurch had to look forward from its sadness and strive to rebuild their city.
The Tibetan spiritual leader arrived at Christchurch International Airport at 12:20pm this afternoon.
He will offer prayers and speak at a free event at the CBS Canterbury Arena at noon tomorrow.
The arena will open to the public from 10:30am, and all are welcome to attend.
The Dalai Lama's representative Thuten Kesang says the 76-year-old spiritual leader has fond memories of his previous visits to Christchurch in 1992 and 1996.
The Dalai Lama, who wrote to Prime Minister John Key conveying his sympathies after the February earthquake, is visiting the city ahead of his 10-day Australian tour.
His representative hopes the people of Christchurch will be able to "find comfort in his words of wisdom".
