David Hess in The House on the Edge of the Park

Songwriter and actor David Hess has died after suffering a heart attack at his home in California. He was 69.

Hess wrote hits for Elvis Presley and enjoyed success as an actor in Wes Craven horror films The Last House on the Left and Swamp Thing.

He also had pop chart success as a singer, recording the first version of ‘All Shook Up’, which was to become a hit for his friend Presley, in the late 1950s.

Hess also wrote Presley's ‘I Got Stung’ and Pat Boone's ‘Speedy Gonzalez’.
