New Zealand’s number one heavyweight David Tua is in negotiations to fight Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield.

The fight would take place in Detroit on November 5.

“It’s in the negotiating stage right now,” leading boxing commentator Colonel Bob Sheridan told Live SPORT.

“That’s what we’re trying to do; put together Holyfield against David Tua, two guys who are at the same stage in their careers.”

The winner will get a shot at Vladimir Klitschko for the heavyweight championship of the world title.

If it goes ahead, the fight will be screened on Maori TV.

A fight with Holifield will not prove anthing for Tua. I'd says if he does fight Holified? it would only to fulfill his contractual obligation with Maori TV. Tua should really be concerntrating on preparing for possibly his last change of getting a Title fight. Otherwise, come next year he'll be too old to be concidered a draw card for any promoter. Time is catching up with Tua as a boxer. Then again, Tua has made a good contribution to boxing Worlwide. Hope he does get a fight soon.

ah just seen from another article these guys are NOT fighting each other. Bob Sheridan was misquoted and meant it would be nice if they did fight each other

come on guys, this could be a great fight, so what if holifield is old he's still a good fighter and should have beaten then champion Valuev a few years ago but the biased russian judges wouldn't give it to him. but i'm actually looking forward to this fight if it happens and it will generate a lot of interest. and don't count out holifield either he could still beat david, remember george foreman won the title at 46

Come on guys its official Tua carried an injury to the Barrett fight and ended up tearing his shoulder muscle so in saying that Holyfield is in deep sh%t bacause Tua is out to put things straight and it looks like he is going to take it out on a legend. Barrett does not want the re-match because has stated "he wants to make things right against Barrett"

David Tua FORGET Holyfield, he is 47 and long past his best. You are far better off trying to secure a fight against Chris Arreola who is a Top 10 ranked Heavyweight. His style would be "tailor-made" for you because he comes forward and likes to engage and his defense isn't the sharpest. With your devastating power you could easily knock Arreola out!!!

This is a huge fight. Could be the last chance for either fighter to get a shot at a title.
Tua won his last fight but he was carrying an injury, I'm sure he will train harder for this fight begause this is his chance to beat one of the greats and that's how it will look - TUA DEFEATS HOLYFIELD (by KO). Yeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh!!!

Bullsh*t tua didnt lose his last fight by tko he drew his last fight. david tua is the most humble, respectful heavyweight of all time, and absolutely deserves (and will) become heavyweight champ

Tua just lost, and almost got knocked out by Monte (punch bag) Barett and Evander Holyfield aged 48 just got lucky against Francois botha (who looked about 70) and these two are gonna fight in a final eliminator for a heavyweight title shot? any of the three champions would seriously hurt either Tua or Holyfield
