Massive amounts of fish have in these 'carpet' described amounts of fish have been showing up in other parts of the world and also hundreds of cattle dying and birds falling dead out of the sky...

Yes, fireworks, powerlines & even cold water as the 'experts' are suggesting, have all been around for quite some time, no? Many of the snapper had no eyes, and the birds had brain haemorrages... This reminds me of two docos that screened in the Reel Earth Film Festival 2008 (thank goodness for alternatives to TV). One, 'Sounds of the Seas' about dolphins brain haemorraging & whales beaching from military ships sonar (http://www.onlinefilm.de/-/film/33320); the other, 'Dangerous Catch', an episode from National Geographic channel showing fish washing up en masse from underwater 'explosions' of built up sulphuric(??) gas - resulting from OVERFISHING (the plankton builds up with no fish to eat it, rots, creates gas, explodes, kills all the remaining fish.........) (Ad: http://natgeotv.com/in/strange-days-on-planet-earth-oceans-dangerous-catch/videos/dangerous-catch). Powerlines? Fireworks? Cold water...? Come on TV3/corporate media... we're not all as stupid as you treat us.

Shane: Don't feel bad. The kiwis they interviewed probably had smarter things to say, like "Power lines, fireworks? Do you think I was born yesterday?"

They don't look undersized? I would like to know exactly where these fish washed up though. I strongly feel the water in the Coromandel is too polluted and has caused diseased fish and contaminated shell fish. My grandparents live there and all of their friends including themselves, who all eat from the sea, are either are dead or are dying from cancer. Seafoods are supposed to be a very healthy food source? The water needs to be throughly checked and we should find the polluting source. If I had the money I would investigate myself and not wait for the council/government to act!

Are you serious? our local fish die and it gets maybe 20 seconds, some birds and fish die in some other country and it gets over a minute. Good reporting by TV3
