It will be interesting to see where the Police take their action (response). Do the rights of the perpetrator supersede the rights of the victim? We ARE in New Zealand, don't forget. When someone dies, someone MUST be held accountable, even while defending their personal domain. Bruce Allan Jones made the wrong choice at the wrong time in his life and it caused his death.

It is so unjust that Mr Gillard should be prosecuted for anything. As far as I'm concerned, if something happens to you while you're somewhere you shouldn't be, tough luck! As far as I'm concerned, you have no rights if you are breaking the law.

Bravo mr Gillard! all kiwis protecting their lives and livelihood can learn from him. the home or business owner is the sole defender in such cases. all strength to crime hating new zealanders

No doubt some overcharging barrister on behalf of Bruce Jones family will be trying to blame the chemist for his death, despite the fact that Jones was a burgler. Our thoughts go out to the Gillard family, who are the totally innocent victims here. Grant Gillard has done a great job of being Mt Albert's Chemist over the last 40 years

The police will now probably lay charges against Mr Gillard - anything from assault causing injury or death to manslaughter.
