The mother of a toddler killed in his Auckland home last week is pregnant.

Two-year-old James Lawrence died of traumatic internal injuries at his Orakei home on November 14.

A post-mortem examination last week revealed the toddler, known as JJ, suffered blunt force trauma to the abdomen, which caused severe damage to his organs.

The New Zealand Herald reports that the toddler's mother is expecting a child and Child Youth and Family told the paper it it would act if the safety of a baby was in question.

"As soon as Child, Youth and Family is aware a child's safety may be at risk, we take steps to assess the situation. That includes concerns for an unborn child.

"If the concerns are of a sufficiently serious nature, then children will be removed," CYF northern region manager Grant Bennett said.

CYF has already removed two children, whose parents shared a home with James, his mother and her partner, from the house. All four adults were home when James died.

The Government agency said last week it had no prior dealings with James or his mother but had been searching for JJ to "check on his wellbeing" in the four weeks before he died.

James was buried after a tangi in Northland on Thursday. The Herald said his father, who is in prison for burglary, did not attend the tangi.

No one has been arrested over the two-year-old's death.

You don't deserve to have the gift of bearing children lady. Who the hell cares if you weren't the one who struck the blow - you didn't protect your innocent little boy. You and your house-animals there that night should each find a short rope with a noose, tie it to the highest branch on the highest tree, put it around your neck and JUMP!!!!

Have we learnt nothing ? All 4 adults should be in jail for obstructing justice ! And to think WE have to now pay for another poor child to come into the world that these individuals create and abuse - commonsense should prevail especially after the debacle thjat was the silence surrounding the Kahui twins !

I do not know what that woman has up in her head but it certainly is not brains, decency or common sense. Just interested in her own pleasures and not giving any thoughts to the consequences. Two children taken off her and one murdered while in her charge. And still she breeds more children to be abused. The children are the innocents and CYPs should be taking this baby at birth to protect it because she has showed that any child in her care is doomed. She should be sterilised and then given the same treatment as her children have had.

People who are on the benefit should not get any more money for any child they have but that would breach there human rights to breed for more dole money and child support.

I would never be for enforced sterilization BUT Offering it to women (ovaries out not just a ligation)between the age of 18 to 45 with a 50k bonus would be fine. That would be the most well spent 50k the govt could ever spend. Yes some may get the money who are decent normal parents who actually take care of their kids (think of it as a bounus) but I am sure the people who are the oppersite will be first in line. They dont care if they have kids or not hence their lack of use of contraceptives. 50k would be cheap given the cost families like this cost the state in the long run.

Just another example of why sterilisation should be made enforceable by law.

Why is this girl pregnant again? Condoms are free for beneficiaries from Family Planning - what is it with these people that insist on having children they cannot afford and worse still, bring them into a world where violence is the norm, where a closed fist is regarded as a 'smack'. It is for people like this that we need to restrict ALL welfare - make all children in receipt of any kind of assistance wards of the state where they are fed, clothed & given books through the schools. This could be done by merging KidsCan, Books in Schools & taking one of the admin jobs out of MSD and get them to overseas things in the schools). Then as the kids will have their basic needs met through school, their sperm/eggs donors can have their benefits cut according to the value of each child with the remainder put on a payment card that bans ALL cash withdrawals, smokes, booze, lotto & tab.. Guaranteed if this happened you would find overnight there would be a whole lot less people receiving welfare - including working for families, and further, less children would be harmed. Take away their ability to make or buy booze & smokes and you take away a lot of the social ills facing these kids. And I bet a lot of New Zealanders would support this - having children is a privilege NOT a right and the sooner people are made to realise this the better. The problem with stories like this is that for every one child that makes it to the news, at least another 30 have been harmed THAT DAY.
