A death in a vehicle fire on Auckland's North Shore this morning is being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to a house in Marcel Place, Glenfield, about 1.30am after a vehicle was found on fire in a garage by neighbours.

Takapuna Fire Service senior station officer Shaun Pilgrim said a body was found in a car parked in the garage.

There were no details available on the sex or age of the victim.

Detective Sergeant James Watson, of North Shore police, said the death was being treated as suspicious.

He said a scene examination would begin, along with a range of other enquiries.

Mr Pilgrim said three fire appliances responded and the fire was contained to the vehicle, garage, and a small laundry.
