Deep 4.6 quake north of Taupo

A 4.6-magnitude earthquake has struck 20 kilometres north of Taupo but, at a depth of 110km, it has not caused any reported damage.

The quake struck at 1.02pm, GNS Science said, and would have been felt in the Gisborne area and possibly other places on the East Coast.

The Fire Service said it had received no reports of damage.
