Laywer Michael Bott is right, stop sending the elderly to prison unless he murdered someone..
Three strike law only begin when it started..
Do not mix the norms with the crims to mentally ill to elderly health and care or take three the stirke laws out all together..

Can someone slap that lawyer - Its not about the criminal, its about public safety - the system is supposed to be for the innocent law abiding citizen so the bottom line is if he can't keep his hands to himself its custodial care from here to the finish line for him. One day we'll wake up and hear that he forgot rape was a crime

No Kathy, not only in NZ, in most countries the lawyers create a hype around a story and present half facts. This lawyer is doing just that. Has this man been charged under the three strike law? To my understanding the answer is no. Yet this is what the lawyer goes on about because he wants to get the emotional reaction, and the media play on it because we all know the media likes to interfere with cases and act as the judge and jury.

@John how long do you reckon until all this happens? How many people do we need to lock up to achieve it? And won't the cost of guarding these people offset the gain from lower insurance and so on? I'm not certain that it's as simple as you say it is but I would love to be wrong.

lawyers dont like the 3 strike law as they dont get to get rich defending these scum hundreds of times throughout there criminal life. However when they are locked up there will be less inoccent victims created by these scum. Im happy to pay to keep these scum inside. My insurance will come down and so will lawyers salaries and legal aid payments will make the average kiwi better off. perhaps it will make the hard working kiwi enjoy NZ without having to look over his shoulder or read these disgusting stories we see evry day in the paper. surely its worth a go to save lives and misery by these scum?
