Singer Demi Lovato insists her stint in rehab has made her a better girlfriend - because she learned not to be so clingy.

The ‘Skyscraper’ hitmaker, who previously dated Joe Jonas and Wilmer Valderrama, checked into a treatment centre for emotional issues following a breakdown on tour in South America in 2010.

She has since confessed to battling an eating disorder and a self-mutilating habit.

As well as learning to put her emotional issues behind her, Lovato claims she has also become a better person - and that will pay off for her next true love.

She says, "I can finally trust and love and be a better person for the man I am in a relationship with, instead of being a clingy girlfriend or getting jealous.

"It is very unhealthy when girls devote all of their time to a guy and forget their friends and family. I did that. I was always looking for distractions because I was so afraid of being alone."
