The new age Destiny Church is facing further criticism, after hundreds of men pledged to honour its leader - self-appointed Bishop Brian Tamaki and his church.

At the church's annual conference in Auckland at Labour weekend, about 700 men swore a "covenant oath" of loyalty and obedience to Bishop Tamaki.

But some say the oath goes too far, stifling freedom of speech, with church members ordered to speak of Mr Tamaki in a favourable light.

However, Destiny Church spokesman and oath author Richard Lewis says that is not the case.

"We can't make people do anything, the members of Destiny Church are here because they want to be - there is no obligation for them to stay," he says.

"We have seen a lot of people come into this movement who have, under the influence of Bishop Tamaki, turned their lives around, and done great things."

Under the oath members must also fully support what Bishop Tamaki promotes.

Destiny church has nothing to do with God...Its all about the Tamaki tribe and their deceitful, fraudulent nature.

Brian Tamaki needs serious help. He needs a profesional psychologist.

2 Corinthians 11 talks about false prophets. You people at destiny need to search the scriptures yourself and not to take everything brian says as gospel. The bible tells us to test what man says and see that it lines up with scripture, and there has been countless things that your false prophet has said that is a total contradiction to the bible. The great comission tell us to go into the world and prach the gospel, oh and that does not mean just brian, but you and I etc. It does not say "build your own kingdom to protect your follwers. There were only two kinds of people in the bible that Jesus got very angry with, those that sold in the temple, and hello, we see that happening all the time as destiny and the second group is the sadduces and pharisees, those that said the right things, looked fancy in their robes of righteousness, these people played the part but their hearts were corrupt, and hello, sounds like your brian. SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES FOR YOURSELF, DONT LET A DELUDED MAN TELL WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS.

Where does God fit in to all of this? Is he not the main focus of all our beliefs, not a man.

first of all, for everyone who is defending brian, i say shame on you.. i am of christian faith, and the flaws of your leader are enormous!
he is claiming to be God!
he is living in a mansion worth millions!
he is driving around in latest model vehicles!
at every opportunity he is busking for your dollar!
in return he offers you 'the truth', 'salvation' and 'freedom'?

next time, you attend the ceremonies,i challenge you to investigate the real truth; how much of the proceeds are going into brians bank account??
the closer you get to the truth, the further from the premises the security guards will send you.

All you people who believe Destiny church is a cult, take a good look at where you come from - the cult you belong to is the most insidious and dangerous. That is the cult of secular humanism. Its foundation is based on a non belief in the God of Christianity. The nation of New Zealand is certainly not upholding the tenets of its forefathers as it once did. Secular humanism is responsible for this. Believing in self and not God or Jesus Christ. So, all of you who think DC is a cult, think how ridiculous you all sound to a Bible believing, tithe paying, church attending Christian who loves God, Jesus and yes, Destiny Church!!

there is a saying that has proven so true with many similar people/leaders/organisations all over the world in the past. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, sounds like a duck - then it probably is a duck.

I have never given much thought into Brian Tamaki and Destiny Church, I have only really seen news articles and thought what he says is ludicrous. Now as I read more and more into the story I truly am terrified as to what this man is filling the heads of his "followers". He is disgusting and no more than a power hungry man with a god complex. P.S wash your hair dude you look greeeasy
