An Auckland property developer has applied to build a 26-level, $200 million office tower in Auckland's CBD.

Developer Tim Edney has applied to the Auckland City Council for resource consent to build the 35,305sq m, environmentally friendly building on the block between Customs St East, Gore St, Gore St Lane and Fort St, the Herald reported.

Expecting to start work soon, Mr Edney said the tower had been designed to be tall and thin as to not block the view from other skyscrapers in the area.

The building would feature double-glazing, sun-control screening, mid-building and roof-level gardens, solar panels, water recycling and rainwater collection systems and bicycle parks.
