'I love Dick' ad deemed too rude

Electronics mogul Dick Smith is furious after an advertisement he filmed for Australia Day was deemed too rude for Australian TV.

The advertisement features Mr Smith himself promoting Dick Smith branded foods such as Ozemite and Ozenuts, and decrying Australian products made overseas.

It then has an elderly woman saying “there’s only one Dick I’ll be eating on Australia Day,” and a man says “I love Dick”.

The advertisement was given a PG rating which means it cannot be shown on TV during 6pm news shows, Fairfax reports.

Mr Smith is now planning to take legal action over the rating.

Fantastic idea - buy local. So I will now support a NZ pro Banking system encouraging Kiwi jingoism and not using any Aussie banks (ANZ, BNZ, National, ASB, Westpac) and moving to Kiwibank. And you can keep your vegemite, holden cars, bananas, wine, etc, etc. Buy local is a great slogan, except when you realise that other countries will do the same to your produce.

Nothing wrong with it, deemed to rude by who? I know people that have issues with sexual perversion may find it rude. In this case it is being used as a double-entendre, but come on the the name Dick does not mean penis. Also the word penis is not a bad word ether its a medical term.

Awesome Dick, enough is enough, loved the commercial and I will be looking for your products. You got me over the line and have my attention.

Not as bad as shops down in Invercargill selling "Camel balls" to kids.
