According to police, fifteen people were injured when a man set of a makeshift explosive device in an office building in the northern Australian city of Darwin.
Police commander Rob Kendrick said the man wheeled a shopping trolley through the front door of the Territory Insurance Office in downtown Darwin, when a significant explosion happened immediately afterwards.
Police sealed off the site as emergency crews rushed to the scene.
The company's CEO said petrol caused the explosion in the building, which is located in part of a shopping complex in a busy part of central Darwin.
A man was taken into custody shortly after the blast, giving himself up to police.
Police said seven people, including a police officer treated for smoke inhalation, were taken to hospital.
One witness described hearing sounds like gun shots, and seeing smoke billowing from the building, with pungent smells of an accelerant such as diesel.
Darwin is the capital of the Northern Territory, a vast and sparsely populated region in the Australian Outback.
