British rapper Dizzee Rascal is seeing the downside to his success - he is regularly hit with 'sell-out' taunts from former fans unhappy with his move into the mainstream.

The ‘Bonkers’ hitmaker started his music career rapping in the underground British grime scene, before gaining attention by winning the coveted Mercury Prize for his debut album Boy in da Corner in 2003.

Rascal, real name Dylan Mills, has since been catapulted into the spotlight, reaching number one in the UK singles chart three times since 2008.

But his chart success has come at a price - he has received a backlash from fans who berate him for changing his style and garnering such wide appeal.

Rascal tells British talk show host Jonathan Ross, "I get called a sell-out every day, man. But progress is progress, basically. There's people that still love my old stuff, new people that like my new stuff. You can't please all the people all the time."
