Labour is assuring members their credit card details haven't been compromised, after an embarrassing security breach by a right-wing blogger.

Cameron Slater, who writes the Whale Oil blog, obtained hundreds of pages of sensitive data on the party's members and donors.

He claims he's done nothing illegal and a lack of security on Labour's websites is to blame.

He's also warned that scammers may have been able to get supporters' credit card details through the same methods.

Labour has released a letter from a payment processing company, saying the credit data was encrypted before being permanently disposed of.

They say despite the website breach, no credit card data has been compromised.

I fear that young Mr Slater has sacrificed much of the good will that I harboured toward him over the issue of applicable name suppression within the courts. This sort of gutter politics isn't impressive and may well backfire on the government.

While Labour's donor database should have been more secure, Slater's attacks are certainly morally reprehensible. Fascinating. And at a time of escalating public concern over National's welfare outsourcing and privatisation plans, too. Pity that it really isn't that much of a distraction...

As with many things associated with this Key-led National Party government the activities of the blubber loving wood louse are those which the NZ public have come to expect since November 2008. Unfortunately, this unpleasant, living off a benefit, little man has both too much time on his hands, too many connections to the National Party HO spinmeisters and has been given far too much attention by the media because of his low life commentary.

The problem with Blubber Boy is that he cannot understand that 'legal' does not always mean 'moral'. His actions may not be illegal, but they are defintely immoral.
