Kim Dotcom is considering his options after being denied bail

Kim Dotcom is disappointed to again be remanded in custody and is considering his options, his lawyer says.

Who is Kim Dotcom?

The 38-year-old German founder of the file-sharing website Megaupload and three other men were arrested on January 20 and face charges in the US of racketeering, copyright infringement and money laundering. Extradition papers are expected to be filed on February 22.

Dotcom went to the High Court in Auckland on Friday to challenge a Northshore District Court decision to keep him in custody but the High Court agreed he is a flight risk.

His lawyer Paul Davison said Dotcom was disappointed and was looking at his options.

He can make a further application for bail if there are new circumstances or can appeal the decision, he said.

"What would I do in Germany with five kids, a wife and no money?" Dotcom told the High Court in Auckland on Friday.

"That's not an option for me."

Bail has been granted to two of Dotcom's co-accused, Finn Batato, 38, of Germany, and Dutch national Bram van der Kolk, 29, who holds New Zealand residency.

The other accused man is Mathias Ortmann, 40, of Germany.

It is alleged the group amassed $NZ216 million in criminal proceeds through the website.

216M in criminal proceeds? From what I know megaupload was ALSO a legitimate fileshare site. Lots of small companies and individuals used it for exchanging and backup files. Now the fbi closed down the whole thing and they lost everything. So much for justice... that's ridiculous. Fbi cannot shut down silkroad, where people sell drugs and arms, but hollywood can make fbi shut down a legitimate site. How fair is that?

Four accused, only one denied bail. Perhaps justice is being done, but who the hell would know? It's certainly not being seen to be done.
