Dotcom in jail: assets frozen, possessions taken, claiming innocence

The furniture removal people were sent into the Dotcom mansion today.

They took a car, some art and a healthy collection of television sets, which may be poetic justice given that the FBI believe much of his copyright piracy was at the expense of people who make films and television.

Kim Dotcom himself remains in prison.

The FBI has frozen his assets, is bank accounts of course, but they have also begun the process of stripping his home.

He and his legal team believe you should see what is going on.

They claim he is innocent but that from the police raids to these removal proceedings, everything has been designed to make him look guilty.

They also point out that had he been charged with murder, his family would still have their money and their home.

There is another side to this story, of course. The prosecution case.

The FBI must have briefed New Zealand to get such co-operation from the Crown law office and the police.

What was that briefing, and was it questioned or swallowed whole?

No-one will answer those questions.

Megaupload was just the same as any other filehosting site, e.g. drop-box, google docs, amazon cloud storage etc. etc. There was certainly nothing inherently illegal about what they were doing. Megaupload was taken down because they planned to launch Megabox - an online music store that would link artists to their fans without the record companies taking the profits. Search megaupload megabox. This is why Megaupload was closed down. The record companies are simply defending themselves because they know they are obsolete. Artists under a direct model would receive upwards of 50% royalty rather than 5-10% under the current model. Forgot also to mention that Megaupload's data has been deleted. The FBI has destroyed the property of millions of people without even assessing whether it infringes copyright. Gross miscarriage of justice to say the least.

Dotcom stole bilions of dollars from a lot of people worldwide on net and he has other criminal records else where and it's up to the Law to decide his fate.. Our prison's are much better then America or Germany, and depending on his criminal records that he may or may not recieved a lighter sentence..

I think New Zealand Justice system is a let down regardless what Kim has done. The new law must be you are guilty until proven innocent. The USA has become a abhorrent country to the majority of the world.

Kim made a living from facilitating the distribution of stolen goods. Anyone who can't see it that clearly has morality issues.

What happend to innocent until proven guilty ? Wheather he is guilty or not he should be allowed to have a trial first. I hope the NZ police are made to look foolish over this and get sued accordingly.

The whole drama has the stench of hidden agendas, especially as a test case to allow more control of the internet world wide. Facebook & you tube are heavily censored already. The heavy police state tactics used in us of a have reached nz where we are innocent till proven guilty... yeah right!
