Torrential rain showers are forming over Auckland this afternoon, and will spread across the city between 3pm and 4pm.
WeatherWatch.co.nz says downpours will be heavy but fast moving, and though the rain is “at the low end of the scale for severe weather”, there are risks and motorists should take caution.
There is moderate risk of surface flooding and isolated hail as well as a chance of isolated flash flooding and thunder.
Driving may be hazardous as the rain mixes with blustery west to southwest winds.
The rain front is expected to move quickly.
