OMG, what has happened to the justice system in NZ? WHO CARES wether this silly little over confident voices her remorse. Who does she and her wealthy family think they are? This girl would have not been so well treated by the justice system if her family had have been from a lower social economic back ground. I this for a fact I worked for the justice system for some seven years. I had seen a hard working business owner with no previous history sentenced to 6 months imprisoment for injuring a person who was a passenger in a taxi that ran a red light . The man was sentenced because his blood alcohol level was JUST ABOVE the legal limit. He did his time and was truley remorseful. A custodial sentence would have re enforced how wrong this silly little girls behaviour was, and if she ever decided to repeat her performance in any way then a much stronger sentence would then and should be given. this girl has no idea of the pain that she has caused , and never will. How dare she asume that people of any age would want to listen to her about anything , but I bet you she is going to make a career out of it!

"I'm sorry" she says...well sorry doesnt bring back a life. I wonder how much daddy had to do with her staying out of jail? Would he do the same for anyone else?
She is a complete idiot for what she did, and she did it knowing full well what the consequences could be. She is to blame, her parents are to blame for raising her to have suce little regard for the law or another persons life, and the Judge is to blame for being so easy on her that it is less penalty than someone gets for selling drugs.
when will the justice system wake up and realise these people are guilty of manslaughter at the least! I mean careless driving causing death gets you a prison term..doesnt it? Or do we jail drug users/suppliers/cooks because the NZ justice system devalues life so much? I couldnt care less if there is over crowding in the jails, build more to house them, or better yet stick the buggers in tents. She should be disqualified from driving for more than she has been and should be denied the ability to apply for a work license.
Lana I dont think this is a race issue its just her dad is a lawyer and obviously doesnt want her to go to jail and have this follow her.
Its kind of the family to have forgiven her, but this should have no relevance on her sentence.
The message here is if you want to kill someone on purpose, make sure you are driving drunk while doing it. You get out earlier than if you shoot them.

watching this story disgusts me really. Like some other comments have clearly stated if she wasnt pakeha then she d proberbly of been in jail by now. I had no idea her father was a laywer - this smacks in the face of justice its just utter bull.... My husband is a cop and the stuff they have to put up with going out day after day risking their own lives for little miss prissys like this. I spit on the justice system on this decision

Francis says she feels as though the public have judged her harshly. Francis, you got drunk, evaded police and killed Penelope. Of course you are going to be judged harshly. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Stop being a drain on society and be an agent for beneficial change. You have left yourself with no other way to live.

She thinks she has been judged harshly by the public well Im sorry but she has driven a car under the influence of alcohol and killed a woman ,a mother , a grandmother not the next door neigbours cat. People have had enough of seeing this on the news every night and then you get home detention it is a bit soft. When the eight months are up you carry on with life but the grandchildren miss out for the rest of theirs. Thank god dads a lawyer. We knew of a guy that had home detention, he stayed home but all his mates still come around on the weekend for a few beers and the odd smoke. You may have to accept that people have put you in the same category as all the other drunk drivers that kill people.

Media is calling for the 21 year old male driver who killed two elderly to be charged with murder. What is the difference between him and Ms Stubbs.....a lawyer for a father. She took off from the cops just like he did. What is wrong with NZ, why do people feel sorry for her!!

she should be locked up for a few years just because she might have a innocent face dose not mean she should get a soft sentence i bet if it was a Maori girl she would get jail time (in the road code it states if you cause death or injury cause by drinking driving you can get a sentence of 5 years)

Hijacker Muslim, 9 years, Guy who stole medals Maori, 6 years, murderer Caucasian nothing, NZ court system racists.
