Ryan Gosling. Enough said.
My ridiculous Ryan infatuation aside, and no I know I am not alone there, Drive is one of those memorable cinematic experiences which stacks up to multiple viewings.
Danish director Nicholas Winding Refn’s first Hollywoodish film, Drive is the leanly told story of a stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver.
There's far more to him and this story than that. His layers slowly peel back when he meets his neighbour (Carey Mulligan) and her life becomes embroiled in his.
One warning. Don’t let the title mislead you, this is not The Fast And The Furious. This is an uber-cool thriller come gangster movie. The sparse but cool car chases are just an added bonus.
Drive will be the coolest movie this year, or any year for that matter. If you have got the stomach for the sudden intense violence and love movies with a dark neon vibe, a man-of-few-words as your enigmatic hero and some bad, bad men, all delivered with a supercool soundtrack, then Drive is your film.
Four and a half stars.
