They’re the new look and sound of New Zealand motorsport—more than 9000 horsepower of rumbling v8 supertourers, on track together for the first time.
It's enough to fluster even seasoned drivers, like two-time NZV8 champ Andy Booth.
“It’s pretty warm in there, but the smile says it all,” he says.
The big V8's are even being heard across the Tasman where the new series has been praised in the Sydney Morning Herald.
It's a relief for John McIntyre, who turned his back on chance of a record-breaking fourth NZV8 title to help set up the supertourers.
“To think a year ago we had one car, and now we’ve got 16. It’s unbelievable, actually,” McIntyre says.
It's easy to see why the likes of Jonny Reid are lining up to drive the supertourers.
“[It’s] just a phenomenal car. Great brakes, good horsepower, great sound. It’s going to be awesome when we all line up on the grid,” Reid says.
This weekend will mark the first of the tour’s seven rounds.
