The Salvation Army and the Mongrel Mob are hailing a seven week drug rehabilitation programme as a success.

The camp is the first of its kind and was set up in the remote central North Island village of Kakahi.

3 News was given exclusive access to the camp as the programme came to an end.

I thought the programme was a total success. It was a privilage to share with the tamariki of the mongrel mob notorious.It was a privilage to share with them waiata and history pertaing to the Kakahi area.It was an honour to have the children perform with Kakahi school at the Mana Ariki kapa haka competition where for some of the tamariki it was there first time on stage.Big ups to the Mongrel mob notorious for there support with the roopu kapa haka at kakahi school,Mauri Ora Matua Aaron

Good on you Donna, its about time gang members' families were included and treated like human beings and potentially productive members of the community. Very big ups to the Salvation Army and whoever else helped for persevering, because it must have been extremely difficult to get funding for it.

Kia Ora, Yes this was a awsome journey for my whanau it was a privillage & honour to be able to work with our tamariki and awsome to meet a wonderful community such as kakahi school who opened their doors to our tamariki and educated them well and made us feel welcomed and apart of their community considering all the negativity we had on arrival. At the end of the day our 12 whanau members put their hand up a cry for help for someone to help them of the P drugs n alchol and its taken 8 years for our rangatira, whanau to do this with all the many huis we have attended goverment our maori health organisations and no one would help intill we had Salvation Army give us chance, with in those 8 years we have lost many lives to P with in our whanau, we hold alot of aroha & resepect for Salvation Army for stepping up & helping my whanau.... The journey continues here in the city and the support is mighty for our 12 whanau. I would like to say to them I am very so proud of them all and Kia Kaha hold your head up high as the journey continues for yous, to our tamariki Education is the key and this journey has inspired me to do my teachers degree for the future of our tamariki i shall make sure yous all get the best education in aotearoa, set those goals, keep focused, keep positive and you shall never go wrong.
