Lower Hutt police say the arrest of a 26-year-old for serious family violence offences highlights the dangers of mixing illicit drugs and violence.
The man was arrested on Friday, following the alleged attack last week, with methamphetamine on him, Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Cooper says.
He has been charged with offences including wounding with intent to injure, injuring with intent to injure and possession of a knife.
Drugs charges are pending, Det Sen Sgt Cooper said.
Lower Hutt police had been targeting drug offenders during the past several months and took a zero tolerance approach to family violence, he said.
"Last night's arrest highlights the dangers posed when mixing illicit drugs with violence."
Anyone in a violent relationship should seek help from police, Women's Refuge or Victim Support.
The 26-year-old appeared in Lower Hutt District Court on Saturday and was due to reappear on Monday.
