A 24-year-old duck shooter allegedly emptied a bar after pointing a shotgun at another man in Southland last night.
Yesterday was the first day of duck shooting season, which saw a middle-aged man fatally shot while hunting with a group south west of Auckland.
In Gore, the offender and some friends had been duck shooting and drinking alcohol yesterday before heading to Traffers bar about 11pm, Senior Sergeant Maggie Windle of Invercargill Police said.
The man allegedly had an argument with another man in the bar before pointing a double barrelled shotgun at him causing all the patrons to flee from the bar, she said.
No shots were fired.
The man and his friends then left the bar in a vehicle.
The Invercargill armed offenders squad arrested the man at a Gore address and seized a number or firearms including a loaded double barrelled shotgun, Ms Windle said.
The man, who was being held in custody, was due to appear in Invercargill District Court tomorrow.
