Duke Nukem Forever is the gaming world's answer to Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy – first announced 13 years ago, it is yet to see the light of day.
Chinese Democracy surfaced in late 2008, after 14 years in development – and now hopes are up that DNF could appear, after a similar wait.
US software developer Gearbox has taken over the game from 3D Realms, and promises to have it out in 2011.
“Gearbox was the only home appropriate for the Duke Nukem brand,” says 3D Realms co-founder George Broussard. “This will be a win-win situation for everyone involved, especially the fans.”
Broussard first announced DNF in April 1997. Its latest incarnation, published by 2k Games, is said to be appearing on PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows PCs.
“The Gearbox Software team and I are ecstatic that we have grown to a position to be able to pick up and carry the torch and help Duke rise back to glory in his time of need," said Gearbox president Randy Pitchford.
