Mr Dunne is proposing a 'winter warmer top-up' (file)

United Future leader Peter Dunne wants to see subsidised power bills and free annual health checkups for over-65s.

In his second policy in as many weeks, targeting the retired, Mr Dunne is proposing a 'winter warmer top-up' of $50 a month for superannuitants.

He says along with health checks, the cuts would cost up to $71 million a year, but would save the country millions more by cutting the cost of winter hospital treatment.

Would it not be better to provide subsidised power to the sick?. Annual health checks for the chronically ill?. Why are pensioners being enticed with extra benefits? they get the highest paid state welfare payment, more than $100.00 per week more than someone sick with cancer. They also get free travel cards. They also already get subsidised health care costs via Work and Income in the health costs subsidy payment. Dunne is supposed to be a christian, instead of offering something that would greatly benefit the sick and disabled in society... he is offering it to a pensioners... not because they need it.... but because they control 16 % of the popular vote. God sees what you do Peter... how are you going to explain this one to him?. Just curious, as its not a policy based on good intentions... but one based purely on greed. I wonder how any politician with any religious leanings justifies policies based on greed and self interest?. Santa is going to put you on his naughty list for this one Peter.

Yes sly as a fox is Dunn,Done this Done that Done stuff all during the year other than to prop up the Nats.Yes That sleezy slob Brash will not work with the left in any way or form, but will back up the National Party, this was said in Yesterday!s paper,This just shows you he wants to rejoin National again after getting booted out of the Nat party, where he can sit in with National on any deals,This is the down fall of this system, and many countries would not even use it.Brash got caught out so many times lying then he got a mouth full of crap thrown into his gob,He cannot be trusted,he is over the hill and should be put out in the marsh. The tiff he had with Key when Key said he would not even want him in his team,is a lot of crap it was a jack up through Key,Brash,Hyde, and notice the Act party went along with the coo.

Don't subsidise power for the elderley. Everyone is finding power unaffordable. Put the effort into getting the power companies to charge less that would benefit everyone and would win more votes. Mercury energy rang and asked if I would like to pay a bit more to fix my power rates for three years, I said no so they instantly put my rate up and my power bill went up by nearly $100 per month and that was before the heaters were turned on.
