To Lucy regarding jacinta. I don't know where she is now but I do remember her in the Weymouth girls home. I was only 15 but old enough to feel the disgust for the way she had been drugged up. The drugs left her walking and talking in a robotic fashion, rather reminded me of the robot from lost in space. Although the drugs slowed her down physically I was aware of a sharp mind still operating fully and could not see the benefits of the treatment. I always felt quite vulnerable during my stay there, doctors and staff alike could and would do as they pleased. I am convinced my on going bladder kidney problems stemmed from the many cold mornings spend in lock up trying to do enough crocheting to earn back my mattress for a bit of comfort. I have wondered over the years what has become of many of those girls, jacinta particularly as I always looked upon her as some kind of sick experiment preyed upon by sick and inexperienced doctors of the time. Kind regards debbie

Hi everyone, my name is Lucy, recently, I had been searching for a friend of mine Jacinta Managin. We had been in Bollard Girls Home in 1976. However Cindy got moved to Weymouth Girls Home. It was during this search that I stumbled on the feed back from the 60 minutes special on the abuse within the Girls and Boys homes. I was wondering if anyone does know of Jacinta Managin if they could contact me on ruihas1@gmail.com.

I am an ex State Ward and so is my partner. We didn't realise how much 'that life' had affected us until we became parents ourselves. We sought help! We received hrs and hrs of counselling over three years for ourselves and our children. I am not writing this for us.. I am writing for my 6 younger siblings who were placed in care in 1995 after my father passed and their mother (my step-mother) became depressed and sought help. Her children were taken from her and placed in numerous foster care homes. CYFs wouldn't take the advice of family to place them with us. They wouldn't listen when we said the kids want their mother. Help their mother so that they can go home. The two eldest were 11, the youngest was 6 months. That was 15 years ago. ALL of those children have been abused! ALL have been institutionalised in either mental hospitals or prisons. The youngest is the only one still in care as Cyfs 'let' the others go when they turned 16. They didn't even help the older ones with school to complete NCEA. They threw them away!
