Young people with eating disorders, such as anorexia, will no longer have to travel from the upper North Island to Australia to get treatment.

A new eating disorders service funded by the Auckland District Health Board launches today to provide residential and day programme treatment for 15 to 24-year-olds.

The Challenge Trust, which is running the service, says about one percent of New Zealanders suffer from eating disorders.

The centre will start taking in-patients next month.

Thank goodness for another service, but why only 15 - 24 year olds? What happens to the 25 year olds who need help?
