An 82-year-old Wainuiomata man has been brutally assaulted in his own home.
The attack occurred last night after the man answered a knock at his door on Norfolk Street shortly before 8pm.
“He was confronted by two young males, who asked to speak to a person known to the victim. He was then pushed to the ground and struck over the head with a wooden baton. Demands were made for cash,” detective sergeant Mike Sears says.
The offenders made a messy search of the house, before leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The victim sustained bad bruising to his face and body and has been left shaken by the attack. He is currently staying with family.
Police describe the offenders as 15 to 16-year-old males. One was wearing black and white sports shoes.
“These are dangerous offenders and we want them caught as soon as possible,” Mr Sears says.
