An elderly Auckland woman was kidnapped and robbed of $1500 by three young women, police say.

The 82-year-old was driven around in her own car and forced to reveal her PIN numbers for her credit and bank cards, the New Zealand Herald reported.

Auckland police are hunting for the women, whose faces were filmed by security cameras, and are appealing to the public for any leads.

Detective Sergeant Graeme Timms said the woman, from St Heliers, had been shopping on West Tamaki Rd when she was seized by the women, about 3.40pm, last Friday.

She was forced into the back seat of her grey 1992 Toyota Corolla and driven around for more than an hour by the trio who used her bank cards to withdraw money from ATM machines in Glen Innes.

They also bought alcohol and other items from a liquor store and superette in Tripoli Rd, Panmure.

The trio later drove the victim into a carpark near the Glen Innes train station and abandoned the vehicle, leaving the victim inside in a distressed condition.

"This elderly lady has gone through an appalling and terrifying ordeal and the people responsible will be located," Mr Timms said.

It is so sad for this to happen in her time of old age and vulnerability, when you think of all of the work her old hands would have done in her lifetime, nurturing those around her, and of her grace and generosity-a common trait of our elders. This crime is just a more extreme version of what is happening with our old folk, there are so many old souls abandoned to rest homes run with a coldness like factories, our elderly being ripped off by their own. I hope she can have some peace and comfort in her twilight years, and I hope there has been some reason for her trauma in that we all wake up and pay some attention and offer some support to our old folk and address the situations that make monsters out of people.

When these scum of the earth young women are caught [and they will be] they should be thrown into prison forever!!. We don't need them! We are begining to see increasing signs of society breaking down when young girls and women think the elderly are soft, easy targets. Respect for the elderly is no longer a barrier. We need to nip this in the bud - this poor woman is 82!
