Elle Macpherson often finds walking in flat shoes “complicated”.
The Australian supermodel has paraded down the catwalk for some of the biggest designers in the business, but says it is still nerve-wracking.
Although many think wearing spindly stilettos would be difficult, she insists donning more conventional footwear can actually be the worst.
“Is it important that we walk in high heels? That’s the question,” Elle said.
“I think it’s a personal choice. Even walking down a catwalk in flats can be complicated. I know from my experience there’s self-consciousness and awkwardness. You’re thinking, ‘How do I make this garment look its best?’ I know it sounds like nothing in particular but it can be scary.”
The 47-year-old has her own company, called Elle Macpherson Inc. She is best known for producing lingerie, but also makes lots of other products.
Elle has been amazed by the success of her firm, which has been running for 21 years.
Even the recession hasn’t had much of an impact, with the company recently expanding into 11 new countries.
“We produce, manufacture and sell lingerie, we also do menswear, afterwear – which is sleepwear – we do D to G cup bras. Afterwear is what you put on after!” she said in an interview with Sky News.
“It’s been very interesting over the recession. We have just expanded. So it’s supposed to be the recession but our business is doing very well.”
