V8 Supercars boss Tony Cochrane has confirmed there will be no more races in NZ

By Shaun Summerfield

V8 supercar boss Tony Cochrane has confirmed next year’s Hamilton 400 will be the last time the series crosses the Tasman.

Mr Cochrane says he has looked at all the options but none of them stack up.

After 12 years in New Zealand the supercars have nowhere to race. They are unwanted in Hamilton, and proposed replacements including Hampton Downs and the Whenuapai Air Base have failed to impress the supercar bosses.

Even a return to Pukekohe was considered - but the former venues no longer up to standard.

What a shame,we are to lose the super cars, will have to go and watch boy racers, and dragsters once again, and those flashing lights just to make the night more decorative. And more exciting.

Why has consideration apparently not been given to staging the event at Taupo. This is the only Grade two FIA circuit in NZ. Taupo has been financially supported by the Government and would be ideal for this event. Why have Motorsport NZ not pushed for this venue? Questions need to be asked.Time for NZ to push and Mr Cochrane to listen.
