This Ashes series has seen England break records, and Australian hearts, the first time England has won the Ashes on Australian soil since 1987.

And this is the first Australian team ever to lose 3 tests in a series by more than an innings.

“We will enjoy this moment. This is a special day. This is a day I have been working towards for a long, long time. We are going to enjoy it,” says England’s Paul Collingwood.

England needed only three wickets today.

Rain initially delayed Australia's pain, but what they needed was Queensland's storms. Instead, they got an English tsunami.

For a nation so used to gloating about its sporting triumphs over England, capitulation has been cause for national shame.

“It's been a tough couple of months to be honest. We have been outplayed in all facets of the game,” says Australia’s Michael Clarke.

The Australians should take heart that a crowd actually turned out today. At the same ground in 1932 just one spectator turned up to see England score one run to win the first test of the infamous Bodyline series.

“I have to say that group of people out there in that part of the corner in the ground has kept us going throughout this past couple of months. The Barmy Army as usual,” says English player Alistair Cook, who was named man of the match.

“Look, it's been an amazing series for me. I couldn't have imagined this seven weeks ago, so I'm very happy,” he says.

But Australians aren't sharing that sentiment.
