Luger Boa

Fri, 11 Sep 2009 11:08a.m.

From:Auckland, NZ

Who: Luger Boa: Jimmy Christmas (Vocals/Guitars), Simon Nicholls, Ryan Thomas, Sam Lockley and Joe Mac (drums)

The Scoop: Out of the ashes of the D4 come Luger Boa specifically headed by vocalist & guitarist Jimmy Christmas. The album Mutate or Die is a top Kiwi rock album for 2009 despite what the finalists of that category from the New Zealand Music Awards this year may have you believe. The visuals used by the band have a distinct sepia/noir graphic novel style which look great.

You may well know a couple of tracks from heavy radio rotation this year - specifically 'What Is Real?' and 'On My Mind'. These are the gentlest two tracks on the album & sound great as a live singalong. The whole album is full of hooks, breakdowns and straight ahead rock.

The Boa are a terrific live act & you should do yourself a favour and see them live. The good news is that there are good opportunities to do this over the next few weeks. They are in Auckland tonight, Wellington tomorrow and then have a run of 7 dates from Dunedin to Auckland as part of The Rock's Legal Tender Tour.

Shuffle with:  the D4, I Am Giant, Biffy Clyro

Play on: This is party time before heading out on Saturday night

Next gig: 11 September, Powerstation, Auckland
