Sir Ian McKellen's penchant for ripping out pages of the Bibles he finds in hotel rooms has caught on - fans have started sending him sections of text they've removed.

The openly gay Lord of the Rings star tears out a section of Leviticus, which condemns homosexuality, whenever he finds the good book in hotel suites - and his small-scale vandalism has inspired others to do the same.

He tells Details magazine, "I'm not proudly defacing the book, but it's a choice between removing that page and throwing away the whole Bible.

"I got delivered a package of 40 of those pages... that had been torn out by a married couple I know. They put them on a bit of string so that I could hang it up in the bathroom."

God's word will not be mocked. But is interesting to see that the Sir is censoring the Bible! Maybe deep down he knows that what he is doing is very wrong. He will one day have to give an account of his actions. Just remember Sir that there are many others watching you and if you think that your actions are okay, think again. If you cause someone to stumble or do the wrong thing you are just just as guilty as they are! Perhaps you are condoning the censorship that the Nazis and the communists carried in the not to distant past? Take this are a word of warning!

Kevin I would like to see how brave you really, let alone actually rip apart pages of a Koran, just mention it the next time you're at a mosque and see. You're nothing but a sissy keyboard warrior!!

Justin, you are an idiot. Christians do follow Leviticus, it is not only a Jewish thing. The bible has both old and new testaments. Christians study both. You go to church and learn something. Craig I totally agree with you.

Andrew my friend, Christians don't follow leviticus 19:27 because that is part of the Jewish law my friend. The New Testament contains no such instruction. Go to church and learn something.

I've always liked the passage in the Books of Samuel (1 Samuel 18; 20; 2 Samuel 1) that says "And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt." If that's not a scene from a bad Mills and Boons book I don't know what is

As said, this is not censorship or destruction of private property. Gideon Bibles are a gift to anyone who wants them. Gideon bibles may be taken from the room, and there is nothing illegal about using bibles to (for example) prop up wobbly table legs, or to write in them, or to take them home to read. One could argue that it's disrespectful, but it's not destruction of property or censorship. The most one could argue is that it's disrespectful, but it's also disrespectful for the bible to spread sexism, racism, or homophobia.

This is not a problem with being gay and Christians. This is a problem of your sin and a Holy God. You don't have a problem with Christians, you have a problem with God. You can tear the pages from the book, but God's word endures forever. On that last day, you shall face the one true God that you say does not exist. You shall face the God you say does not have a right to declare to His creation the rules by which they shall live. On that day every mouth will be shut.
