Families watching Prime TV this afternoon got a shock when the Grass Roots Rugby show they were watching was suddenly replaced by hardcore porn.

Parents were outraged at the programming blunder, one father told 3 News his eight-year-old son's innocence had been ruined.

Within minutes of the images going on air, 3 News was flooded with calls from distressed viewers.

A Whangarei 12-year-old was horrified, running around with her hands over her eyes saying "eww" and "gross".

An Auckland woman watched in disbelief as the rugby turned to Desperate Black Wives 2. She said it left little to the imagination.

A Port Waikato viewer said it was not something he wanted to see as he was watching Grass Roots Rugby.

Prime would not comment when contacted by 3 News.

The company did later release a statement admitting that at 2:58pm, three minutes and 50 seconds of "inappropriate material" from one of Sky's adult channels went to air.

Prime said the problem was caused by a distribution fault and that the company had taken steps to ensure it did not happen again. Prime also apologised for any offence the mistake may have caused.

Actually wouldn't it p!ss you off more if your "Pay for View" porno was interupted by that afternoons game between Marist Seniors and United Suburbs just on the gravy stroke.

I never understood why they have "soft Porn". I mean those who like porn don't really like it and those who hate porn hate it so I mean why have it at all? I guess this was the highest ever ratings for 4th Division club rugby.

I sympathize with Lillian. I myself am still recovering from the increasing shock and disgust I felt each of the eleven times I watched my recorded copy.

My partner worked for Prime Television as an Engineer at the time of the SKY takeover. He left shortly after expressing his concerns with the short comings in management of 'Engineering' systems and was concerned for the potential of certain Pay TV content to go to air on Prime. He left swearing it was only a matter of time before Porn went to air on Free-to-air and is surprised it didn't happen sooner.

Will it be back after the so called popular demand or has it gone for good.still i find it funny that lillian sat there and took notes you should have hit the record button and had plenty to moan about over and over again.

lillian, what a laugh. Most people who would be offended would change the channel, but you were so offended you had to watch it all and write down everything that happened. yeah, guess you needed to take notes for your own use and then pass it off as a letter. HAHAHAHAHA, really, some times I wonder if all kiwi's do now is moan.

It's great rollicking entertainment for the family on Sunday afternoon isn't it Conor? The 8 year old might be inspired to become a porn star himself when he gets older...oh, but then again why wait? He could make bigger money as a child porn star and save the tax-payer from having to pay for his education. We'll just need to keep hush-hush about the HIV/Aids reality in the Blue movie industry as he may find that a little offputting.
