For 65 years the factory was one of the major employers in Greytown

Dozens of sewing machines are about to be auctioned in the small Wairarapa township of Greytown.

Sadly, it is as a result of clothing giant Lane Walker Rudkin going into receivership earlier this year.

For 65 years the factory was one of the major employers in Greytown.

The residents of Greytown believe in its name - it is pretty, and attracts it share of visitors. Many of the workers have stayed in the area and found other jobs.

After the acution, the town does not want the factory to remain idle. Despite the sell-off, the town is determined to keep the factory building in use.

It just so sad..my heart goes out to b&b workers up there, im currently working in lwr in chch. Interesting to see former workers are feeling exactly the same as us, still loyal, but left in the dark. doing our absolute damndest to get money in the pot, but getting nothing in return. no recognition, no thanks. really difficult. i hope like hell theres light at the end of the tunnel for us, good to hear most people in greytown have found work and good luck to the girls that managed to grab a machine to start alteration work.

It is very sad to see glam model mannequins befeft of new clothes and a future. John Key should work harder for people like this; too many shops may close in Town centres as well.
