New Zealand tennis No.1 Marina Erakovic and partner Heather Watson beat the tournament top seeds to win the doubles title at the Bank of the West Classic at Stanford, California.

Combining for the first time, the pair defeated the American and Australian duo of Vania King and Jarmila Gajdosova 7-5 7-6 (7).

The 24-year-old Aucklander and Briton Watson made the final after beating third seeds Natalie Grandin and Vladmiria Uhlirova 7-5 6-7(6) 10-7 in the semi-finals.

It is Erakovic's sixth WTA doubles title.

She will play in the WTA Premier event at Carlsbad, California this week before competing at the Olympics.
