Kiwi rowing pair Eric Murray and Hamish Bond go into the London Olympics as favourites, undefeated in the men's coxless pair in the last three years. The results page on their website is a string of "1sts" – including World Championship wins, World Cup races in Germany and Switzerland, and the Henley Royal Regatta in London.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

  • In 2007 they both won a Halberg Award as a part of the men's coxless four team that won the World Championship.
  • In 2009 Murray and Bond won a Halberg Award again, this time as a pair. (They were also nominated in 2010, but lost to the All Whites.)
  • In December last year, Murray broke the world record for indoor rowing, going 18728m in a single hour, after which he had to mop up his own pool of sweat.
  • Picking up three World Rowing Championship titles in the men's coxless pair, in addition to winning the 2007 men's coxless four championship, which they both rate as their best rowing memory.
  • In January Murray defeated Mahe Drysdale in the Men's Single Scull by half a second.
