A brick through the window and two death threats have prompted euthanasia campaigner Sean Davison to move house as he serves his home detention sentence.
A brick was thrown through the window of the Dunedin house where Davison is serving a five-month home detention sentence for aiding the death of his terminally ill 85-year-old mother Patricia and he was also sent threatening letters.
Davison requires an application to the court from the Department of Corrections to move his home detention address.
But he told the Otago Daily Times that a move from the Kaikorai home of his friend John Landreth was imminent.
"I'm involved in a very sensitive moral issue, which some people do react quite extremely about, so I've got to take the abuse and attacks that come with that," he said.
"But it's not fair that he's affected, because he isn't involved in the issue."
A brick shattered Mr Landreth's window after 11pm on Friday and landed 4m across the living room floor.
Attached was a note which said "Leave Gods (sic) laws or be struck down dead".
Mr Landreth said he normally sat by the window and could have been killed if he was sitting there when the brick was thrown.
The incident came a day after Davison received a letter in the post with glued-together letters which said "An eye 4 an eye. A tooth 4 a tooth. A life 4 a life. U mother killer".
The Department of Corrections said it can't comment on Davison's circumstances but said its primary concern when considering suitable addresses was public safety.
It said factors to be considered "include the nature of the offending and assessing risk of harm to the offender or any occupants residing at the home detention address".
Davison's home detention ends on April 25.
