A former Returned and Services' Association local president is due to be sentenced for wearing medals he had not earned today.

Former president of Otaki RSA Don Moselen pleaded guilty in April to wearing three medals, including one from the Vietnam War, at Anzac Day.

He was charged under the 1918 Military Decorations and Distinctive Badges Act for wearing war medals he knew he wasn't entitled to.

The offence carries a maximum fine of $500.

Moselen wore the New Zealand Operational Service Medal, The Vietnam Medal and the New Zealand General Service Medal.

However he denied an additional charge of dishonestly using a cheque belonging to the Otaki RSA.

Moselen is due to appear at the Levin District Court this afternoon.
