The 1972 Holden Monaro GTS is stuck on the stranded Rena container ship

While environmental fallout from the Rena continues, owners of the freighter’s cargo don’t know when they’ll get their possessions back.

There are around 2000 containers on the ship.

One contains ex-pat Troy Levien’s pride and joy – his 1972 Holden Monaro GTS.

The electrician who is based in Western Australia was due to be reunited with the muscle car for the first time in four years.

“I wonder what has happened to it, it’s just heartbreaking,” he says.

Efforts are underway to stop cargo aboard the vessel falling into the sea.

An email from the importer of the car sent last week suggested the recovery of the vehicle could get messy.

How inconsiderate is PARE imagine your parents ashes were on board the Rena?? Or a muscle car you had for so many years or something that means alot to you..and you get the oportunity to have them put on a ship to you on their way to Australia and this disaster happens how would u feel? Not to mention there is an entire container filled with a family's belongings and furniture and is in the middle of the Rena almost squashed kids paintings, ancestors jewelry, life ling possessions and u have no consideration for these 2 family's this stuff they will never get back, I hope the family's muscle car and ashes are safe and the other familys furniture are safe. What a terrible thing for NZ beaches as well to have so much of that oil on ourbeautiful coast line.

Optimist- what are you talking about? No one mentioned politics. PARE if you have have something negitive to say don't bother commenting here, why would u take time out of your great life to write something like that if u don't care.... You must be one bored lonely person. What do u people get out of writing comments about how much u don't care if u don't care don't write nothing at all. Simple. I bet if your possessions were on that ship it would be a different story huh? Not just the monaro is on board there are other things like family ashes and that's why it is important to get these containers off!

The salvage crew haven't been sitting on their hands for 5-7 days at all ! Did you fail to notice what the weather was doing the past 5 days ? High winds, high swell. The Awanui trying to pump oil off collided with the stern of the Rena and had to return to port. Prior to that the oil lines broke or pulled away multiple times. And some of you muppets actually try to blame the PM. Get real this isnt a political situation. Might as well blame Helen Clark, see if that flies !
