Fair Go reporter Phil Vine is doing well after spending last night hooked up to morphine after being impaled by a collapsed chair.

The incident is believed to have occurred outside TVNZ’s cafeteria. The chair collapsed, impaling the reporter in the back with a 10cm piece of wood.

A basket was used to lift Mr Vine from the fourth level of the building to a waiting ambulance.

Mr Vine was in serious condition when he was taken to hospital with the wood narrowly missing vital organs.
