This is why prostitution was legalized, to allow sex workers as much protection as possible. At 17, Jane was too young to be in the regulated industry, so she might still have been working the streets even today. Sex work will always have some hazards, but by keeping it legal and regulated I hope tragedies like this become very infrequent even if we can't totally eliminate the dangers.
