Lady Gaga waves to fans outside the Stamford Plaza

Five-time Grammy award winning singer, Lady Gaga, has landed in Auckland two days ahead of her first New Zealand show.

Today one fan has already got close enough to the star to wonder if she should ever wash her hands again.

The singer arrived in Auckland on a drizzly grey day, a colour not normally associated with Lady Gaga.

But the weather gave the superstar a chance to glow as she made her solitary way in to Auckland Airport through the tradesmen's entrance.

Just 20 km away her fans quietly fizzed in the wind and rain as they waited for a glimpse of the self-dubbed Mother Monster.

There were some who tried to outdo Gaga, but when she did arrive it was no competition.

There wasn't a whiff of meat on today's outfit, but it didn't disappoint fans.

“Orange, I mean it looked a bit like the sunset so I appreciated it,” fan Cain Thompson says.

“I thought ‘Gaga you've really thought about your costume choice today’.”

A wave, a flicker of a smile, 90 seconds later and she was gone, leaving behind a mob of hysterical Little Monsters.

“She said ‘hi’ and touched my hand, and I'm not going to wash my hand now,” Shalini Reddy says.

Another fan is sorry for his behaviour

“I kind of reached out and grabbed her, I felt really bad, I'm sorry for grabbing you, but it was good,” Kieran Slee says.

“My hand smells…”

Tickets for her shows on Thursday, Friday and Sunday are still on sale.
