Welcome to the first episode of Fashion Front Row – your inside guide to New Zealand Fashion Week, with 3 News Entertainment Reporter Kate Rodger and Metro magazine’s fashion editor Rebecca Wadey.
Kate and Rebecca dissect the week’s first big shows – Liam/Ruby and Cybele.
They agreed that Liam’s second Fashion Week showing, while featuring some well-tailored suiting, was underwhelming compared to last year’s debut. The label’s goal of simplicity sometimes translated to unflattering slim-line dresses.
In contrast, Ruby was punchy and fun. In particular, Rebecca loved the white shirt and jean combo with black print.
The next show was proven fashion week performer and one of Kate’s favourites, Cybele.
After a quiet few seasons, the label is back with a vengeance – showcasing several distinctive prints.
There has been a move towards more fitted designs, which contrast the flowing tunics Cybele is known for.
