Dog owners with fashionable pets were in luck as a company specialising in canine clothing showed off their latest creations in Buenos Aires.
Amores Perros, which calls itself a 'canine boutique', was displaying its wares at the International Dog Show, held at La Rural conference centre from Tuesday to Sunday (April 5-10).
A dog fashion show saw a variety of breeds strutting down the catwalk, showing off the company's autumn/winter collection in a distinctive four-legged style.
The outfits were tailor-made to the type of dog, with tough-looking dogs dressed in leather jackets and more delicate creatures wearing little hats as they were transported inside a model's handbag.
Many of the dogs also had their outfits coordinated with their model escort.
Amores Perros designer Mariela Schiavo was pleased with the reception of her miniature outfits.
"We just are amazed here in La Rural, as we are in the business, as to how people that buy from us are so accepting.
“People pass by and enter and the concept is that the people see the clothes and say, 'Ahhhh, I can't believe this exists for dogs!' We take a lot of care on the details so that the clothes are really attractive and the fabrics are very good quality," said Schiavo.
The show was a family affair, with many children in attendance and all wide-eyed at the spectacle, as the dogs padded down the runway wearing fur coats and other such extravagances.
Rain jackets, wool sweaters, tweed jackets and special 'hygienic underwear' were all on sale for those looking to make their animal stand out on the streets.
"You can have an urban garment that would cost 90 pesos up to fur coats using imported furs that cost 260 pesos. It varies a lot because we have things for all types. We also have wedding dresses and smoking jackets for special events. So it is very wide (variety)," said Schiavo.
Although some of the models occasionally struggled to keep their companions under control, the dogs were generally well-behaved and made an impact as the fashion-forward stars of the show.
