Despite losses to Australia and Jamaica in the qualifiers, the Fastnet Ferns were expected to roll England in the final.
Unfortunately, the English’s long range shooting was spot on.
The second half saw captain Irene van Dyk replaced by Catherine Latu which started a bit of a roll for the ferns, stretching their lead to five.
Only for Harten to bring the game back to 14-13 on the halftime hooter.
Then came the game's most pivotal stanza where all goals counted for double, and that played into England's hands.
England's defence was watertight, and the Ferns made some silly mistakes.
In six minutes, England had outscored the ferns 16-8, the game as good as gone.
The English held on 33-26 to finish 2011 with a flourish.
For the Ferns, it's the second finals loss in months, following their heartbreaking extra time thriller against Australia at the World Championships in Singapore.
